ALBUQUERQUE - THE ABQ Home & Lifestyle EXPO is expanding and adding the International Green Ideas Show. The event will run October 25 and 26 at Expo New Mexico and features exhibits, demonstrations and lectures designed to enhance people’s homes, lifestyles and experiences. The International Green Ideas component will showcase eco-friendly products, programs and services offered by inventors, companies and other green groups from around the world. The show will offer information, demonstrations and seminars to help people convert to a green lifestyle. Topics will range from xeriscaping and environmentally conscious home decorating to green investing and hybrid cars. Lucas Productions, a locally owned company, purchased New Mexico’s largest home and remodeling show in early 2007 and renamed it THE ABQ Home & Lifestyle EXPO. Owner of Lucas Productions Ken Lucas said the inclusion of The Green Ideas Show would enhance the new mission of THE EXPO. “Going green has become increasingly important to people living here in the Southwest especially because we face unique challenges from the desert environment, such as water conservation,” Lucas said. “New Mexicans are looking to find out more about what they can do in their daily lives to preserve our state’s beautiful landscape.” About the company: Lucas Productions is an Albuquerque, New Mexico based company that is managed and owned by Del Reanne and Ken Lucas. Boomers’ Focus has Shifted Toward Lifestyles
Albuquerque – January 2, 2008 – The Baby Boomers have dictated trends for over 50 years, and their impact has now expanded into the home show industry. Nationwide, home shows that have added lifestyle sections – vendors, samples, workshops – have seen increases and record attendances. That trend in home shows is now coming to Albuquerque.
According to Dulmae Bower, author of homebasedbusiness.com and baby boomer researcher, “It used to be about wealth - ‘get that bigger house’, buy the ‘nice car’ and the ‘toys for the boys’. Now it’s far more about lifestyle – it’s about time with the family, reducing the ‘pressure’, ‘flexibility’, moving to a more ‘relaxed environment’ and starting a business ‘because I want to. . .
To bring the focus to lifestyles, Lucas Productions purchased Albuquerque’s largest home show - the 16-year-old Albuquerque Home Remodeling and Furnishing show - from Interact Productions earlier this year. To more accurately reflect the flavor of the new show, its name has been changed to the Albuquerque Home and Lifestyle Show. Two shows will be held at Expo New Mexico in February and October.
With over 85 percent of the exhibit space already sold, the addition of lifestyles seems to be the right one.
“I’ve participated as a vendor in the show for years, and it needed to be upgraded,” explained Ken Lucas, President of Lucas Productions, which also owns Granite Transformations. “The changes we’re making seem to be resonating with vendors. We’ve had dozens of people who’ve chosen to come back to the show after being gone for several years. We’re very excited about the changes and the way Albuquerque is embracing what we’re doing.”
The Albuquerque Home and Lifestyle Show will have 250 home improvement and lifestyle exhibits. Exhibitor categories include: home remodeling and furnishings, landscaping, spas, fitness, recreation, leisure and travel. In addition, people can hear celebrity speakers including: The Healthy Housekeeper Laura Dellutri, America’s Master Handy Man Glenn Haege and The Wall Wizard Brian Santos.
As for the future of this event, Lucas has a multitude of plans. “We see this event as a significant marketing opportunity for local, regional and national home and lifestyle oriented companies that are seeking an opportunity to expand their business within the Albuquerque Metro market,” he said. This show is being modeled after similar events in larger cities such as Phoenix, Denver and Los Angeles. The plans on the drawing board include significantly increasing the size and scope of the show while utilizing a portion of the show proceeds to support the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and the UNM Cancer Center.
